Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, East Java, Indonesia. Watch the sun rises. It was 05:23 am (25JAN2009). The national park is named after its two mountains, Mount Semeru (the highest on Java) and Mount Bromo (the most popular). The area around the mountain is inhabited by the Tenggerese, the only Hindus left on the island of Java. For many visitors, the sight of angular-faced, sunburned, moustachioed Tenggerese wrapped in poncho-like blankets, trotting about on ponies with craggy mountains as the backdrop more resembles Peru than Indonesia!
