We have always relied on public transportation whenever we are touring cities in the world. In Vientiane, we take the "Tuk Tuk" to go everywhere. It is not cheap, could costs KIP40,000.00 (equiv to RM20.00) for a 2 km ride - one way. Nevertheless, we hire them as they are convenient, easy to spot, fun to negotiate and gets you to your destination fast.
Whenever we want a Tuk Tuk, we negotiate : we ask, "how much ???" and the driver will reply "50,000 KIP", then we bargained, "no, 30,000 KIP only" ... we then look at each other; and the driver will say "40,000 KIP ???", and we will say ... "Okay" ... which was what we have in mind in the first place. But seeing the smile on the driver's face; we also knew that, that was what he was expecting in the first place anyway ... ahh well ...
