Independence Monument, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Friday 1st November 2013
The Independence Monument (Vimean Akareach) in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, was built in 1958 for Cambodia's independence from France in 1953. It stands on the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard in the centre of the city. It is in the form of a lotus-shaped stupa, of the style seen at the great Khmer temple at Angkor Wat and other Khmer historical sites. The Independence Monument was designed by the influential Cambodian modern architect Vann Molyvann. During national celebrations, The Independence Monument is the center of activity. A ceremonial flame on the interior pedestal is often lit by a royal or high official on these occasions, and floral tributes line the stairs. Every year, The Independence Monument is visited by foreigners and locals alike.

Travelling from Shah Alam to Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Friday, 1st November 2013
We left our Shah Alam home after 'Subuh'; drove to KLIA : to catch our MH 754 flight to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Parked our 4X4 at the usual 'valet parking' at Sama-Sama Hotel (cost RM 20.00 per day, cheap cheap) and dropped our baggage's at the MAS counter (as we have already web checked-in earlier). The flight departed 15 minutes later than scheduled. It was a slightly bumpy flight but we arrived safely into Phnom Penh International also 15 minutes later than scheduled. Our arrival was smooth, Cambodian Immigration and Customs were 'very nice people' and we were whisked along without any hustles. Took the 'cab coupon' from the cab counter (US$9.00 from Airport to Phnom Central Anywhere) and left with the 1st cab at the front of the line. We arrived into "Nagaworld Hotel"; checked-in and went straight to our cosy, cold and 'nice' room on the 9th floor. We will be staying here for 3 nites; until we leave on Monday.
